CELEBRATING 4 YEARS OF MY-URVEDA

To kick off the new year with plenty of inspiration I’ve been perusing the Myurveda interviews. A Q+A that started in 2017 shortly after launching East by West the book and this website, it’s a platform celebrating the people who have lived and loved the ancient Indian health philosophy of Ayurveda. After asking all of my inner Ayurveda circle to participate I pounced on anyone with any kind of Ayurveda story to share. Now more than 5 years on as my work continues along with the ongoing success of what was my third cookbook, but first cookbook on Ayurveda, I am running into endless new interviewees who are happy to share their experience, work and the tips that have helped them fall in love with this lifestyle.

Here are some inspirational quotes to start 2023 with, I hope they show you the magic that can be found in Ayurveda…

NATHALIE AZKUE MOUKOM

Ayurveda for me is the ongoing practice of observation of my outer and inner nature and the art of balancing those. It also means simplicity to me. Ayurvedic lifestyle consists of simple yet powerful tools that everyone can integrate into their daily lives. Drinking warm water, conscious eating, self-massage…the transformations are profound! Ayurveda offers a treasure chest of tools to get a deeper understanding of how body and mind work together.”

NADENE HAWKER

“The part I love the most is I can help to guide people, but the magic is already inside them. It’s incredible seeing my patients understanding themselves in a way that creates balance, empowerment, and harmony.”

MICHELLE RANAVAT

“To me, Ayurveda means prevention. I see it as the science that allows us to holistically understand the body and skin, and use ingredients that help us regulate our body’s response to stress and help the skin from becoming inflamed.”

 NISHA KHANNA

“Even if you just eat fresh, wholesome food that is closest to its naturally occurring form, you are eating Ayurvedically. If you then prepare it with herbs, spices, and warmth, making it easier to digest and assimilate, it is even more Ayurvedic. And, if you select specific foods, herbs, and spices to balance your Vikriti, you are enjoying the full expression of Ayurveda.”

TOMAZ MUELLER

“We have all the knowledge of what to do and how to regain balance in life, all the knowledge is deeply ingrained within us. What is required is to clear the old habits, belief systems and behavioural patterns out of the way so we can listen to what our body truly needs and we can activate the body’s own self-repair mechanism.”

KARA AUBIN

“Ayurveda means the wisdom to live life aligned with a natural order, to step into our nature, instead of away from it. It is, most elegantly, the science of life.”

PRIYA RAGHAVEN

“The other aspect that drew me to Ayurveda was the fact that we’ve never heard our grandparents speak of sustainability or being“eco-friendly,” because that was pretty much the only way they lived. Everything was reused, resources were conserved and used only when needed — something we really need today. As I found myself looking for the better, more sustainably green option for everyday essentials each time [in the UK], I found myself going back to a few ways that form the very core of Ayurveda — living in the context of our surroundings.”

SUCHITA KOTHARI & HANSA MELVANI

“ Though life is full of uncertainty and change, one thing we know for sure is that Ayurveda has taught us how to show up for life’s challenges. It’s given us more strength; physically with stronger immunity, emotionally with a more balanced perspective and spiritually with faith in a higher energy. Our journey that began with weekends spent studying Ayurveda in a third floor Tribeca office block has led us back to ourselves.”

SARA HERANDI

“I thought that if something has been around for five thousand years, it must be for a reason — it was this rich history and social proof that drew me to it; it’s literally been tried and tested over generations. It’s also probably the most holistic wellness system in the world, and I really believe in treating the mind and body as a whole.”

JESICA CERVONARO

“From when I get up to when I put my head on the pillow at night. Ayurveda is not only about food and diet, it's also about good conduct, caring for people, speaking the truth, empowering others, and sharing the knowledge of Ayurveda to inspire and uplift.”

SALILA SUKUMARAN

“Ayurveda is my family's history to me, and like my family's history, the rituals of love and belonging will pass on to my daughter. Ayurveda, to me, is the love of my mother, my aunts, and my grandparents. Ayurveda was introduced to me through their loving admonitions like, “If you do this, you will be healthy forever” and so on. Ayurveda was in the food they cooked for me that left me feeling like we were abundant as royals even though we lived carefully. Ayurveda was in the rules they followed when I caught a fever, and the flowers and fruit they showed me growing wild in our garden.”

SUSAN CHEN

“Ayurveda doesn’t say ‘no’ to anything; it simply says ‘know’ to everything.”
