“Ayurveda is a way of aligning ourselves with the time-tested wisdom of mama nature.”

What does Ayurveda mean to you?

Ayurveda is a way of aligning ourselves with the time-tested wisdom of mama nature.

Ayurveda is the Science of Life, so it is literally the science of understanding all matter. In that sense, everything is “Ayurvedic,” though when you apply the wisdom that Ayurveda offers, you can begin to understand what substances/foods/activities bring one more towards a state of balance, and which will bring one towards a state of dis-ease. That is why no one thing is considered “good” and another “bad.” It is just understanding that things affect the individual, and have the wisdom to CHOOSE what actually serves.

When did you discover it? How long have you been practising it?

I was born and raised to parents who practise Bhakti Yoga, and a father who is an Ayurveda practitioner. The teachings of Ayurveda were seamlessly weaved throughout my entire life.

What drew you to Ayurveda?

Growing up around my father’s retreat centre, I would see patient after patient coming with all types of imbalances, whether it be chronic or accute, mental, emotional, physical, relational... anything! And after just a few days of applying these simple yet profound lifestyle practices, HEALING WOULD HAPPEN! I saw it as a way of living that creates more ease. More joy. And just makes so much sense. It’s a perfect science, and such a deep way to live.

Is Ayurveda part of your everyday life or just for your medicine cabinet or fall-back routine?

Ayurveda is everything to me. It’s how I view, and thus understand, the world.

What are your top 3 Ayurvedic tips that have worked for you?

  1. Self-massage (Abhyanga) has supported me in nourishing myself and caring for myself in a way that feels so complete.

  2. No snacking between meals and having my last meal before the sun sets has completely regulated my digestion.

  3. Sleeping no later than 10pm and being up before 6am gives such steady energy throughout the day.

Did you integrate it gradually or overnight for any particular reason?

Gradually. As I learned more, I would apply more. And as I began to experience its effects, I would learn more... and then apply more... :)

Do your children/family eat an Ayurvedic diet? And if they do, do they know it’s Ayurveda or do they just think of it as home cooking?

Yes! My husband is also an Ayurveda practitioner, and we really believe that food is medicine. We eat seasonally as much as possible, at predictable times throughout the day. And it is the most nourishing, beautiful, vibrant home cooking.

What is your favourite Ayurvedic recipe or go-to ingredient?

Mung beans.

How does Ayurveda fit into your day-to-day routines?

It allows me the ability to check in with myself, moment to moment to moment, and to feel into what I need in THIS moment to feel more balanced, and thus more connected to my Self.

What do you wish was easier in our society to make an Ayurvedic lifestyle more accessible?

People having the time to cook and eat freshly prepared meals.

Do people around you/in your circle of friends know about Ayurveda?

Yes :)

What’s the one thing you would encourage everyone to try or you think would benefit the majority of people’s health for the better?

Self-massage 💗
