“I wish society would offer more support in giving space for individuals to connect with themselves and their true nature, rather than constantly overloading the senses with new diets, new gadgets, new technological inventions. If we are less pulled away from our own seat, we then can easier connect to our true nature, and that for me is Ayurveda. Living in harmony with nature, the people around us.”
Julia is an Ayurvedic Health & Lifestyle Advisor and yoga teacher. She was first introduced to Ayurveda during her Yoga Teacher Training in 2013.
Ever since, she has been drawn to the holistic system in which body, mind and soul are integrated to create a balanced life. Julia uses the wisdom of Ayurveda in her yoga classes teaching Yin, Vinyasa Flow, Ayurveda and Ashtanga Yoga. She is a full-time teacher and Lifestyle Advisor with the aim of helping students to discover their true nature by integrating softness and strength to balance yin and yang.
Julia sees yoga and Ayurveda as a mirror that continuously shows us different sides of our selves over and over again, proving that everything is constantly changing. With teaching and guidance, she hopes to help her students connect with self-love and contentment through a deeper knowledge of their body and mind.

“To me, Ayurveda means the art of living.”
What does Ayurveda mean to you?
To me, Ayurveda means the art of living. How I interact with myself and the people around me. Living in harmony with nature.
When did you discover it? How long have you been practising it?
I discovered Ayurveda in 2012 and have been integrating it into my daily life ever since.
What drew you to Ayurveda?
What drew my attention in the first place is that it doesn’t have this one-size-fits-all approach; on the contrary it looks at the individual and their personal make-up. Depending on that, diet and lifestyle tips are given to support each person in their daily life.
Has it helped you with anything major?
It has helped me on a physical but also mental level. I used to suffer from panic attacks, but looking back at what I took in I was only feeding my senses and body with Vata-increasing stimulants. Through Ayurveda I learned the principle of opposite balance and like increases like, which is so basic but such a solid concept. By integrating more Vata-pacifying food and lifestyle choices, my symptoms decreased and I now feel this sense of deep trust, rest and compassion within myself.
Is Ayurveda part of your everyday life or just for your medicine cabinet or fall-back routine?
For me living is Ayurveda, as it encompasses all aspects of from the moment of awakening up to the point of how we surrender into rest.
What are your top 3 Ayurvedic tips that have worked for you?
Pranayamas (breathing). I love the Brahmari, it is like an anchor for the mind.
Cooking according to my constitution, more warm, nourishing and stew-like (yuuuuuum).
CCF Tea, which is a herbal tea supporting your gut.
What surprised you most about Ayurveda?
That every single one of us has an individual make-up and that we cannot categorise people. Through that I became more open, compassionate and less judgmental.
Did you integrate it gradually or overnight for any particular reason?
I already had a daily yoga, meditation practice and was eating healthy, so I was adjusting things here and there to make my lifestyle more supportive to my constitution.
Do your children/family eat an Ayurvedic diet? And if they do, do they know it’s Ayurveda or do they just think of it as home cooking?
My partner also eats Ayurvedic and he definitely knows what it is!
What is your favourite Ayurvedic recipe or go-to ingredient?
Oeeeeeeh, tough one! If I had to chose one, then it would probably be ghee. I love this golden liquid. It adds a lovely flavour to my dishes and I feel the difference if I cook in another oil. Ghee makes me feel more rested and lubricated.
How does Ayurveda fit into your day-to-day routines?
I follow a seasonal Ayurvedic routine. But after practising for many years I don’t follow a list anymore, I more so feel into what it is that I need right now. I often asking myself the question: does it nourish me or does it deplete me? And yes, I often go for nourishment :)
What do you wish was easier in our society to make an Ayurvedic lifestyle more accessible?
I wish society would offer more support in giving space for individuals to connect with themselves and their true nature, rather than constantly overloading the senses with new diets, new gadgets, new technological inventions. If we are less pulled away from our own seat, we then can easier connect to our true nature, and that for me is Ayurveda. Living in harmony with nature, the people around us.
Do people around you/in your circle of friends know about Ayurveda?
They do. I am a full-time yoga teacher and Ayurvedic consultant. I am blessed to be living in a bubble, where a lot of friends speak my Ayurvedic/yoga language.
What’s the one thing you would encourage everyone to try or you think would benefit the majority of people’s health for the better?
To oil up! People are so up in their heads, often disconnected from their bodies. By oiling up we can rediscover not only the landscapes of our being, but also lubricate the whole vehicle, to glide and slide through life.
