AYURVEDIC BRANDS YOU NEED TO KNOW
As the Ayurvedic community and appetite has grown in the UK, so has the number of brilliant Ayurvedic brands available to purchase. Here has some of my go-tos and a bit about why I love them:
Mauli is an all-natural and organic beauty brand inspired by Ayurvedic medicine. I’ve recently discovered the brand’s “Anti-Ageing Skin Massage Tool” — a tension release tool that has been designed to lift, sculpt and soothe skin whilst also activating marma points therefore releasing stagnant energy. “Marma” in Sanskrit refers to the hidden energy points in the body and face located over the lymph nodes, joints and chakras, and associated with the major endocrine glands.
Pavilion Healthcare is a leader in authentic Ayurvedic herbs and remedies. My favourite product from Pavilion is the brand’s range of organic, Ayurvedic teas which have been expertly blended in Brighton. The Dosha-balancing teas in particular are a brilliant resource to have in the cupboard for when you are feeling out of balance — my favourite is Lemon Balm and Sweet Orange.
Maharishi Ayurveda is built on the central importance of the mind-body relationship for health. It’s a go-to resource for me when looking for Ayurvedic products across the board — one product which always ends up in my shopping basket is the brand’s COSMOS certified Vata Massage Oil. I have to regularly rebalance my Vata, for which Ayurveda prescribes, amongst other things, plenty of self-massage to ground the body and bring it back into balance. This warming, calming herbalised oil has been designed to help relax, ground and strengthen the nervous system and is a lovely bedtime self-care routine at least once a week or for an early morning start.
UMA is a luxury beauty and wellness collection made of rare, precious botanicals grown in India and built on Ayurvedic wisdom. I always reach for the brand’s Deep Clarifying Face Mask which is formulated with botanicals to detoxify and soothe your complexion. Tea tree helps to combat infection; cinnamon and orange boost cell turnover to help reduce the appearance of acne scarring; antibacterial turmeric, clove and neem keep blemish-causing bacteria at bay; honey and lemon regulate natural oil production to minimise future breakouts. These are united in a kaolin clay, fuller’s earth and aloe base to draw out impurities and soothe inflamed blemishes.
Renuka Patel is the woman behind Ren’s Kitchen. A self-confessed foodie, Ren’s passion for Indian food was the instigator behind her launching her own brand. Ren’s online shop is stocked with Ayurvedic cooking essentials including the must-have spice tin which comes stocked with seven key spices.
Chāmpo (pronounced shar-pour) is the Sanskrit origin of the word “shampoo.” This haircare brand’s unique formulas combine Ayurvedic principles with modern technology and active botanicals.
The spice tin which lives in my kitchen is in constant use and needs regular refilling. Spice Mountain is a haven of high-quality, well sourced spices, and you can find even the rarest and most difficult to find spices in their online shop, so they’re a great one to turn to when your spice rack is looking a bit desolate.
Glow Bar is a shop, café and infra-red sauna destination off Oxford Street. It also has its own range of wellness essentials, including Ayurvedic essential Ashwagandha, an adaptogenic herb used to calm the body in times of stress and anxiety.
Fable & Mane is rooted in the Indian tradition of hair oiling. The brand’s signature HoliRoots Hair Oil is a pre-wash hair and scalp oil treatment that promotes a healthy and strong mane with key ingredients including Ashwagandha and Dashmool, a blend of ten roots known as the ultimate remedy for thick hair.
Subtle Energies are passionate about natural skincare and wellness solutions founded on authentic Ayurveda principles. This background underpins the cutting-edge clinical research and development of the Subtle Energies brand, allowing authentic pioneering formulas and treatments to be developed. I love all of the brand’s essential oils but my favourite is the Aura Protection Concentrate, a purifying blend designed to cleanse your space.
Holy Lama was started by Vijay Deo, who always wanted to create a range of products that were pure, natural, ethical and sustainable. In 2000, with 40 years of experience in the essential oils industry under his belt, he made his vision a reality with Holy Lama’s range of natural body care products. The brand’s Ayurvedic soaps are completely handmade, right from mixing the natural ingredients through to the eco-friendly areca palm leaf packaging.
Ilody create their skincare formulas using plant-based ingredients popular in Eastern wellbeing practices. Each botanical ingredient is thoroughly researched and the brand’s products are made in the UK using sustainable methods for everything right through to the packaging. The Seres Boosted Collagen Serum features ingredients including bakuchiol (a natural alternative to retinol), safflower oil and wakame to create a product formulated for anti-ageing.
I love Moringa What’s high quality cold-pressed oil for skin and hair. In ancient Egyptian, Roman and Greek civilizations, the oil extracted from the Moringa seed was believed to help protect the skin from damages and infections when applied all over the skin and was also known to work as a natural moisturiser. Moringa What’s ingredients are sourced from small holder farmers in India and created with a focus on natural, non-toxic, cruelty-free and sustainable beauty.
Organic India was started with a mission to be an inspiring, trustworthy and innovative global leader in providing genuine organic products and solutions for healthy conscious living. The brand’s Tulsi Sweet Rose Tea is a stress-relieving and immune-boosting tea which uses a base of Ayurvedic favourite Tulsi, aka Holy Basil, for a delicious caffeine-free tea with added sweetness thanks to the rose petals.
Kola was started with the aim of creating products using the superfoods loved in the East. The Golden Glow turmeric latte blend combines turmeric, adaptogens and spices to help heal, recover and boost your mood, skin, joints, and muscles.
Urban Veda believes that the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda fits seamlessly into a 21st century lifestyle. Urban Veda’s products have been designed to suit different skin types, which in the principles of Ayurvedic medicine are associated with Doshas. The Tridoshic Reviving Facial Oil wraps your skin in the comforting extracts of Rose, Shatavari and Jasmine (not me… but the essential oil version 😂).
