In the interest of not spending lockdown and winter holidays glued to our screens, I thought I’d do a quick round-up of some of the inspirational books that I’ve come across of late. These are books that move us, even if we can’t actually travel very far in the imminent future. Books that challenge our perspective and help us grow — even when we perhaps haven’t bought into a concept in its entirety. Whether you’re asking yourself the big questions right now or you just want a heartwarming read, these books are just the thing.

Fears to Fierce by Brita Fernandez Schmidt

Coming out in January, this book by executive director of Women for Women International Brita Fernandez Schmidt is essential reading for the times we’re living through. Fears to Fierce is a guide to overcoming that feeling of being “stuck” and stepping into your power. You’ll come out of reading this book ready to make all your dreams come true.

Notes on Love: Essays on life, love and loss by Fenton

Taking inspiration from the past and present, the book highlights stories which have traditionally been excluded from the narrative on love. It seeks to open up a discussion which is more diverse and inclusive — drawing on the experiences of amazing contributors, including Alain de Botton, Candice Brathwaite and Binwe Adebayo, and with an introduction by Aexandra Shulman, former editor of Vogue. 100% of the profits from Notes on Love will be donated to Akt, Black Minds Matter, Coram Beanstalk, Women’s Aid and IKWRO.
