“I feel balance is very important, that is finding a routine that works for you and that includes healthy activities. Choosing positive thoughts and habits significantly helps improve your life quality. For example, every day when I wake up in the morning, I consciously choose to be happy, to focus my mind on positive things and what I am passionate about, and really set a peaceful tone for the day. Intention is everything. Rest comes with it.”

Neeta Singh has two Ayurveda training certifications from the School of Ayurveda and Panchakarma in Kerala, India, one in Beauty Therapy and the other in Ayurvedic massage and Panchakarma therapy. She is the founder and CEO of Neeta Naturals, Inc., a line of Ayurvedic Beauty & Wellness skincare born from the skincare rituals passed down to Neeta by her mother in India. The tradition of using facial oils and Ubtans (face masks) is said to have originated over 5,000 years ago and was treasured by Neeta’s mother, grandmother, and the generations before them. Neeta Naturals’ formulations are rooted in this rich heritage.

“My family always valued the power of nature.”

What does Ayurveda mean to you?

Ayurveda to me is a mantra for life. I grew up in India in a joint household, which means three generations living in the same house. My family always valued the power of nature and we depended quite a bit on botanicals and herbs to heal things like the common cold and fever. I grew up eating Chyawanprash with warm milk every night before bed and my family always used Neem as a natural antibiotic. During this time, I learned formulations that I still keep in my cabinet today. I like to think of it as a connection to my heritage and lineage of women. My all-natural chemical-free perfume “Dear Heart” is inspired by my world travels and the people and places I have visited over the years.

When did you discover it? How long have you been practising it?

It has been always part of my life, and especially since I moved to Oregon in 2002 with my husband. I follow the Ayurvedic wellness tips for my kids — for example, when my kids were very little, I used to give them Ayurvedic treatments with Hrida herbs for colics and massage them every day with oils. I continue to use Ayurveda as part of my lifestyle.

What drew you to Ayurveda?

I felt like I was lost, until I returned to my roots. My sense of returning to my roots was a sense of wholeness in me, which reunited me with Ayurveda.

Has it helped you with anything major?

Over the years, I have found Ayurveda has helped me with skin conditions such as dark spots, dryness, acne and more serious ailments such as colitis.

What are your top 3 Ayurvedic tips that have worked for you?

  1. I drink warm water first thing in the morning.

  2. I put a drop of ghee in my morning chai.

  3. I drink a herbal wellness tea specially during these pandemic times.

What surprised you most about Ayurveda?

Its history and unique concept of healing.

Do your children/family eat an Ayurvedic diet? And if they do, do they know it’s Ayurveda or do they just think of it as home cooking?

Yes, my kids are vegetarian like me and they know how to cook daal, so it’s part of their lifestyle too.

What is your favourite Ayurvedic recipe or go-to ingredient?

Kitchari.

How does Ayurveda fit into your day-to-day routines?

I live my life in balance and do my breathing exercises as part of my routine, as well as my eating schedule.

What do you wish was easier in our society to make an Ayurvedic lifestyle more accessible?

More widespread information and access to high-quality clean beauty skincare.

Do people around you/in your circle of friends know about Ayurveda?

Yes, they do now because of me.
