INTRODUCING MY DAMSON MADDER EDIT

Creating an edit for Damson Madder, a brand I have coveted and admired for a long time, was a pleasure. Their spin on eco-conscious clothing is never dull and always a joy to wear!

Known for their colourful, patterned, 70’s retro inspired pieces as well as subtle but standout takes on classics like soft denim jackets with large rounded lapels and silky pyjama sets that are far too nice to just lounge in, I find their designs to be timeless additions to my wardrobe. Their commitment to doing things better in sustainability terms, without compromising on trends, colours or new styles only makes the product sweeter.

Materials used include TENCEL™ (which if you’re a long-time reader you’ve already heard me speak about), recycled polyester (all those single-use plastic bottles getting another life) and when it comes to cotton they choose for recycled, repurposed or organic. Product runs are small, when it’s gone it’s gone and when it’s not gone, it stays online ready and waiting for their perfect match rather than becoming redundant and thrown away.

Like many of you, it’s really important to me that the ethics and eco credentials of the brands I wear and support are transparent and ethical, and while no brand is perfect, Damson Madder is a brand paying attention and putting effort into the broader problems - from working conditions and fabrications through to production quantities and researching best practices. They pride themselves on ‘challenging the status quo.’

I have carefully edited a collection of favourite pieces to incorporate into your existing wardrobe which will give you styling-options and fashion fun for many future seasons to come!

Say hello to my edit…

THE CROCHET TASSEL SCARF

If you have followed me you know I love anything that gives a nod to the 70s and this scarf is no exception. Crochet has been on trend for seasons gone by and there’s no sign of that fading. This colourful scarf, hand-knitted by artisans in Turkey, is the perfect way to elevate your winter coat - it will add a pop of colour bringing a little summer style to those cooler autumnal days.

THE POM POP STRIPE BEANIE + STRIPE BEANIE

These knitted hats show just how much you can do with recycled materials, they are made from 3 recycled plastic bottles? I’m Vata by nature which means, from here until May you won’t find me sans beanie (and you’ll probably still spot me in one over the British summertime too). I was instantly drawn to the colours in the beanies - which made me look forward to bundling up in the coming months. These two will definitely be worn on rotation for the months to come.

THE GINNY JUMPSUIT

Whilst black isn’t my usual go-to, sometimes you need a classic base in your wardrobe which becomes a refreshing change that also works for many occasions. In the case of this jumpsuit, I was instantly drawn to the interesting neckline, oversized peter pan collar and flattering wide leg. It is a piece that can totally be dressed up for more formal occasions (such as the Christmas party season) or more casual days when I am wandering around my local market or carboot. Made from 20% recycled cotton and 40% TENCEL™ the fabric has the gorgeous soft, ‘lived-in’ denim feel that’s very comfortable on the skin.’ This piece will be a mainstay in my wardrobe and perfect to throw on for any days where I just can’t think of what to wear.

THE HOLLY PUFFER

This puffer is just… the best! I can already see this is going to radiate fun into my winter wardrobe and have started wearing it rather prematurely - in full sun. Who knew wearing something made from recycled plastic bottles, plastic bags and disposable plastic tableware could spark so much joy. What I love about this puffer is that not only does it do its job to keep you warm (making the Vata part of me very happy) but adds a massive dose of style with the oversized collar and vintage flower print.  Winter doesn’t have to mean dark, muted tones - you can also go bright and bold with in your face prints and colours. I’m just waiting for the matching skirt! But meanwhile Mix and match with your usual winter essentials for the ultimate bundled-up outfit.

THE JONI SHIRT + PANTS

Who says pyjamas are just for the house? Certainly not when these are your pyjamas… . and these are a great hybrid piece in any wardrobe and scream to be seen. Oversized, giant collared, yellow, patterned AND with a sheen. Made from EcoVero™ viscose (created using sustainable wood from controlled sources) they are as good dressed up with some heels and jewellery as they are dressed down with a pair of trainers for a busy day.

THE BARBS LEOPARD DRESS

Leopard IS a neutral and this dress, made from 100% organic cotton, is a throw on and walk out the door kind of piece - something I find myself reaching for more and more these days. It’s comfy, it’s loose and long in all the right places, no need to worry about tights or cold legs, yet there is shape, and detail and yet another collar - this time a ruffle that you can tweak right up for dramatic statement making this one of those much loved day to night pieces. I’m wearing mine with trainers and a jacket now, and long boots with a thick winter coat come winter.

THE HILMA HOODED JACKET

Another nod to my love of the 70s palette - I could quite happily live in this fleece winter long. Unlike some fleeces it’s not actually that bulky or heavy (but still brilliantly warm like a fleece should be) so fits easily under a more formal coat for an unusual take on classic dressing. I adored the distinctive orange and brown colour palette (matches my home interiors as you can see!). The slightly cropped style is ideal for wearing around the house during the turn of the season, and then layering up when it gets even colder…. You’ll definitely find me living in this, this season.
