MY TENCEL™ DENIM ESSENTIALS
There’s denim, and then there’s TENCEL™ denim!
After working with TENCEL™ for the past couple of years, it has been amazing to see how it continues to be one of the leading fibres present in the pieces from some of the world’s most notable brands. If you are unfamiliar with TENCEL™ then, in a nutshell, TENCEL™ fibres are the result of a process that transforms wood pulp (sourced from sustainably managed forests) into cellulose fibres through an environmentally responsible production process. Composed of exclusively natural material, TENCEL™ fibres are 100% biodegradable and compostable and so, at the end of their lifespan, can fully revert back to nature they came from. One of the main draws of TENCEL™, in addition to the above, is that it never fails on its softness and ‘lived in’ feeling against the skin and this extends to the denim pieces it is used in. I’m not one for anything too rigid or stiff - give me easy comfort any day so when it comes to denim, TENCEL™ denim is a no brainer. Jeans containing TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibres (I explain the difference between the two here) are produced using innovative technology with low amounts of water, one of the main environmental critiques of mainstream denim manufacturing.
I wanted to share some of my favourite pieces made from TENCEL™ denim which I can already tell are going to be staples and pieces that I keep going back to season after season:
THE JEANS
High Rise Straight Leg Jeans - Isabel Marant
If there is a style of jeans that I always reach for - it’s a straight leg. These Isabel Marant jeans are a timeless pair thanks to subtle faded wash which give them a vintage-style look and feel. TENCEL™ Lyocell gives an extra stretch which guarantees that you will feel comfortable all day when wearing them.
THE DRESS
For those evenings where you need a classic base, a midi-dress is always a go-to. This dress is made from a denim and TENCEL™ mix which makes it lightweight unlike typical denim dresses. From its flared shape and tie-waist, I knew this piece would be a mainstay in my wardrobe, along with my favourite gathered sleeves - it makes outfit options easy on those days when you don't have the time . It also has pockets, which makes it an immediate win in my book!!
THE SKIRT
This ruffled hem denim maxi skirt is the noughties style (did you hear it’s made a comeback?!) personified. Made from an organic cotton and TENCEL™ Lyocell blend means it is soft, not heavy or rough on the skin. Pair with your go-to pair of clogs, mules or even trainers for a wearable pop of denim.
THE SHIRT
Collared Long Sleeve Shirt - Marks & Spencer
Simple lines combined with a pure TENCEL™ twill give this shirt a slightly-more luxe feel - I can see this piece being a great transition piece which will get me through the cooler to warmer months. Paired with some high rise straight leg jeans and trainers mean that whether I am running between meetings or wandering through my local market - I can still be casual but also comfortable.
