THE ECO ‘IT’ BAG
Well, it has to be said that, whilst I haven’t used a handbag in months and months, a little ease on lockdown and the romance of a summer stroll has me wanting to look the part.
Summer means thinking maybe a little less practical (don’t need to juggle an umbrella, wear with a coat etc..) and more what’s going to complement the sunshine. Here are some eco “it” bags I’ve been eyeing up.
This Mads Nørgaard Recycled Boutique Global Chloe Bag is a large cotton number with a simple carrying strap. Produced in heavy recycled cotton with a bright and happy multi-stripe pattern, it’s ideal for your weekly trip to the supermarket.
BEEN.london make every bag and accessory using recycled sustainable textiles to create something beautiful, timeless and lasting. They focus on simple designs to keep the prices affordable, all while placing importance on a sustainable and ethical production line. This small but mighty bag has an adjustable strap which allows it to be worn across the body or on the shoulder.
Fun, sustainable and durable, these bags are handmade in Mexico using recycled plastic by skilled weavers in the Oaxaca region, within a fair-trade environment. This bag takes approximately four hours to make and is just big enough to carry all your essentials in.
Everyone loves a basket bag — this woven straw basket was made in Spain by local artisans using local materials, celebrating excellence in craftsmanship. Fill with a blanket and your favourite snacks for a picnic in the park.
Summer’s must-have basket bag, without the commitment of carrying a big bag around with you all day! Handwoven using locally-sourced sisal fibres, this hand-woven basket has been produced by a small collective of female weavers living near the Masinga Dam in Kenya.
BOTTLETOP’s signature Mistura braiding technique blends upcycled metal with Zero Deforestation Amazon leather in a unique, complex weave that is created by hand. This versatile crossbody features enamel-painted, hand-finished crochet work using upcycled ring-pull detailing throughout and an Alysse strap. Over time the enamel finish will gradually fade in parts of heavy use, revealing the sparkling metal hidden beneath in a way that is unique to each design.
