“AYURVEDA’S ABILITY TO OFFER INSIGHTS INTO PERSONAL HEALTH AND ITS NATURAL, NON-INVASIVE REMEDIES IS DEEPLY COMPELLING. IT’S ASTONISHING THAT THOUSANDS OF YEARS AGO, THEY CATALOGED THOUSANDS OF PLANTS AND MEDICINAL COMBINATIONS THAT MODERN SCIENCE IS JUST NOW STARTING TO CATCH UP ON.”

WHAT DOES AYURVEDA MEAN TO YOU?

Ayurveda represents a holistic approach to life that emphasizes balance, wellness, and harmony between the mind, body, and spirit. It's not just a medical system; it's a way of living that teaches us how to maintain and protect our health, understand our natural constitution, and live in tune with nature.

WHEN DID YOU DISCOVER IT? HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PRACTISING IT?

I discovered Ayurveda during a pivotal moment in my life when the western medical system failed me. I was misdiagnosed for 38 years of my life and was bedridden. I was seeking deeper meaning and more effective ways to manage stress and maintain health and that led me to Ayurveda. It's been in my lineage, however my parents did not know much about it. Therefore I decided to make a documentary, titled The Natural Law, about it and teach others of its power. Ayurveda healed me and gave me a second chance at life. I've been practicing Ayurveda for about 11 years now, integrating its principles gradually into my life and experiencing profound benefits.

WHAT DREW YOU TO AYURVEDA?

I was drawn to Ayurveda's personalized approach to health and its emphasis on prevention. The western medical system was not giving me solutions to my problems. I took various tests, pharmaceutical drugs and even had surgery which did not help. That's when I decided to take my health into my own hands. The idea that health care is not one-size-fits-all and that we can use the wisdom of our bodies and nature to heal and thrive was incredibly appealing. When I started to research Ayurveda, I noticed there was not a single movie out on it, and that inspired me to not just learn more, but teach others too.

HAS IT HELPED YOU WITH ANYTHING MAJOR?

Yes, Ayurveda has been instrumental in helping me to reverse my ulcers, manage my celiac disease, manage stress, improve my diet, and enhance my overall well-being. It's also played a key role in how I approach entrepreneurship, allowing me to maintain peak performance without burnout.

IS AYURVEDA PART OF YOUR EVERYDAY LIFE OR JUST FOR YOUR MEDICINE CABINET OR FALL-BACK ROUTINE?

Ayurveda is woven into the fabric of my daily life. From the foods I eat to the way I structure my day, Ayurvedic principles guide my choices. It's not just a fallback for when I'm unwell; it's a preventive and life-enhancing practice. I follow dinacharya rituals daily and incorporate herbs and teas as well.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP 3 AYURVEDIC TIPS THAT HAVE WORKED FOR YOU?

1. Tongue scraping to remove toxic waste from my mouth in the morning.

2. Starting the day with a warm glass of water to stimulate digestion.

3. Eating a diet tailored to my dosha (body type) to optimize health and energy levels.

WHAT SURPRISED YOU MOST ABOUT AYURVEDA?

The depth of its understanding of human health and the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and environment was a revelation. Ayurveda's ability to offer profound insights into personal health and its natural, non-invasive remedies were both surprising and deeply compelling. It's astonishing that thousands of years ago, they cataloged thousands of plants and medicinal combinations that modern science is just now starting to catch up on.

DID YOU INTEGRATE IT GRADUALLY OR OVERNIGHT FOR ANY PARTICULAR REASON?

The integration was gradual, reflecting Ayurveda's principle of gentle, sustainable change. This approach allowed me to truly understand and adapt to each practice's impact on my health and well-being. Nowadays we are so stuck on having an immediate solution to our ailments and issues...but that's not how nature works. Flowers don't grow in one day...they take days/weeks to blossom.

DO YOUR CHILDREN/FAMILY EAT AN AYURVEDIC DIET? DO THEY KNOW IT’S AYURVEDA OR DO THEY JUST THINK OF IT AS HOME COOKING?

My family has embraced many aspects of an Ayurvedic diet, largely because it's presented as wholesome, balanced home cooking. While they're aware of the Ayurvedic principles behind it, the focus is on enjoying nutritious, delicious meals that benefit our health. Our kids drink Ayurvedic teas almost every day and we have "Spa Day Sunday" where we massage each other with Ayurvedic oils. It's a beautiful practice.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE AYURVEDIC RECIPE OR GO-TO INGREDIENT?

My go-to ingredient is ghee for its digestive and health-promoting properties. I also like triphala for a light detox and to keep the colon/intestinal tracks clean. A favorite recipe is kitchari, a nourishing blend of rice, mung beans, ghee, and spices, known for its detoxifying benefits.

HOW DOES AYURVEDA FIT INTO YOUR DAY-TO DAY ROUTINES?

Ayurveda shapes my daily routines from morning to night, including dietary choices, exercise, meditation, and even the timing of work and rest to align with natural rhythms for optimal health and productivity.

WHAT DO YOU WISH WAS EASIER IN OUR SOCIETY TO MAKE AN AYURVEDIC LIFESTYLE MORE ACCESSIBLE?

I wish there was greater awareness and accessibility to Ayurvedic foods and products, along with more educational resources to demystify its practices for the mainstream. That is why we created our documentary and on our website The Natural Law.

DO PEOPLE AROUND YOU/IN YOUR CIRCLE OF FRIENDS KNOW ABOUT AYURVEDA?

Yes, through my journey and advocacy, many in my circle are now familiar with Ayurveda. I've shared my experiences and the positive impacts, sparking interest and curiosity among friends and colleagues. They've come back to me and told me amazing stories of how they have healed or how they have helped their family/friends heal. It's been an amazing journey.

WHAT’S THE ONE THING YOU WOULD ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO TRY OR YOU THINK WOULD BENEFIT THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE’S HEALTH FOR THE BETTER?

I'd encourage everyone to incorporate meditation into their daily routine. Its benefits for stress reduction, mental clarity, and overall well-being are profound and align beautifully with Ayurvedic principles for a balanced life. It's with the right mind, one can accept new dynamic possibilities of life and learn how Ayurveda can help them.
